“Each investee company needs specific and individual support matched to their needs. Most investors in the tech start-up space have significant value to add, each with their own USP.
When we at Talis talked about “adding value” we think of it in three ways; 1) Leveraging our unique investor base which is a group of UHNW entrepreneurs and business people, this creates profile and opportunities for our investees across a broad range of sectors. 2) The Talis team are an eclectic and experienced collective with strategic skills in building companies from concept stage right through into larger businesses – we often take a board seat which means we can add value to all functions, bolstering them for growth. 3) Our venture network is key (like any other VC) we see huge benefit in cross pollinating the portfolio, drawing on our close relationships with later stage funders as well as introducing key personnel and high quality contacts from our ecosystem. We also invest significant time and resource into research across our key sectors and curate focused conferences twice a year to bring together large corporates, start-ups, scale ups and investors to share their views and do business – our companies and our investors really value this convening power.
In summary, it’s about bringing the investee into the epicentre of our world and ensuring we’re aligned with the entrepreneur and making their mission also our own.”
